Albion Women have secured the exciting signing of Charlotte Clarke on loan from Barclays Women’s Super League side Liverpool.
Clarke, an England U21 international goalkeeper, joined the Reds as a full-time professional in December 2021 from Derby County.
She has gained a wealth of experience in the FA Women’s National League in recent years, having played for Derby in the Northern Premier Division when she was 16 and then Leicester City - where she won promotion. She has also featured for Stoke City at the same level.
In the 2020/21 term Charlotte was dual registered with Aston Villa, training regularly with the Women’s Super League side and making an appearance in the League Cup.
And Albion Women Head Coach Jenny Sugarman is delighted to get Clarke on board for the upcoming campaign.
She said: “Charlotte is an outstanding goalkeeper with tremendous experience and we’re very pleased that she has agreed to join us as part of the next stage of her and our development.
“Having worked with Charlotte before I know what she will bring to the team and it is already clear how much her time with Liverpool Women has improved her. This signing shows the intent we have to take our team to the next level and I have no doubt Charlotte will play a key role in this with her ambition, personality and professionalism.”
Clarke added: “I’m really, really happy to be joining Albion.
“I know Jenny and Goalkeeping Coach Tom Read really well. I had a phone call with Jenny and after hearing the immense progression of the club, it was something I couldn’t turn down. We’ve got such a fantastic vision across the club, in particular the women’s team, and that’s really exciting to buy into.”
“Coming to The Hawthorns, I really get the sense of how professional the club is off the pitch, it’s an amazing stadium, and the facilities the team have got is so impressive. It’s credit to the club. I can’t wait to get out there in front of the Baggies fans.”
