Alex Mowatt couldn’t hide his delight after bagging a second-half brace to help Albion claim three points against Portsmouth on Sunday afternoon.
The Baggies No.27' scored two equally eye-catching strikes - adding to Josh Maja’s early opener - to send a sold-out away following home in high spirits, and ensure Carlos Corberán’s team entered next week top of the Sky Bet Championship table.
And the midfielder was full of praise for the club’s supporters and the atmosphere they created on the south coast, but insists Albion “can’t get carried away” if they are to continue their solid start to the season.
“Which was my favourite goal? Definitely the free-kick,” said Mowatt
“They’ve been queuing up in training, and I’ve been having a bit of a shocker. So when I got the ball I thought, ‘I’m going to have it anyway’.
“Mikey was begging for it, but I was just buzzing it went in.
“He’s only small, we saw it on the picture the other day, so as soon as I got him off it I thought ‘let’s go for the top bins'.
“I thought they were a really good side and the atmosphere here was really good.
“They were on top of us and I don’t think we were great in the first half. We had a few chances, but we got the goal, rode it out for a bit and at half-time, we changed a few things.
“The second goal helped us and made the game a bit easier. They had a lot of set plays that we had to deal with and I think we dealt with them quite well, but it was a good game and a good test.
“It’s massive. We’ve had a good start to the season but we can’t get carried away. It’s a long season and we all know that, but it’s nice to have a good start and hopefully we can continue that.
“It’s nice and it’s good to be at the top rather than the bottom, so we’re buzzing.
“We’ve got to thank the fans. They always come in numbers and they always cheer us on.
“Some of the songs today I’d have liked to have got involved with myself, and the atmosphere all-round the place - away and home - was really good and it was a really good game.”
