Alex Mowatt admitted Albion “weren’t at our best” in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday - but believes they can make amends quickly this coming week.
The midfielder played the second half and netted the Baggies’ equaliser in South Yorkshire, as they came back from two-down before being beaten by a late Anthony Musaba goal.
And while he was gutted to suffer a first 20224/25 league defeat, Mowatt said his teammates can get back to their “usual selves” when they host Middlesbrough on Tuesday night (ko 8pm).
“It was very disappointing, especially when we bring it back to 2-2,” reflected Alex.
“Maybe we got a little bit excited and have gone for the win, but we switched off and ended up conceding.
“A draw is a good result here after being 2-0 down, so maybe we should have taken the point and gone onto Tuesday’s game.
“It’s a difficult place to come and the way they play, they get on the second balls and put balls in behind, and you can see that from their goals. They’re a good side at what they do.
“We weren’t at our best but hopefully it’s a one-off game and we’re back to our usual selves against Middlesbrough.
“I didn’t mean it (my goal), to be honest. It fell to me on the edge of the box, I half shanked it, but they say the scruffy ones always go in.
“I was buzzing to get the equaliser but I’m gutted we’ve lost the game in the end.
“We haven’t got too many days to dwell on it. We’re back again on Tuesday and that busy schedule is why we have a big, strong squad. We should all be ready and we’ll try and win.
“I only trained with the squad on Friday after training by myself on Thursday. I hadn’t really trained all week so (not starting) was the gaffer’s choice.
“I felt fine out there in the second half, so hopefully it was just a little niggle in my groin rather than anything serious.
“After conceding three goals today, we want to get back to being solid on Tuesday. We pride ourselves on that, and it’s what wins us games.”
