Steve Bruce believes scoring two early goals was crucial against AFC Bournemouth as Albion recorded an impressive win over the promotion-chasers on Wednesday night.
Strikes from Alex Mowatt and Andy Carroll inside the opening 12 minutes were enough to settle a hard-fought encounter at The Hawthorns.
And speaking after the game, the boss said he was pleased with the performance and reserved a special mention for Carroll’s efforts.
Bruce said: “It was certainly a pleasing performance tonight.
“It’s also really frustrating too when you think about previous results we’ve had and that’s what we’ve got to try and address, that inconsistency.
“The last two home games we’ve beaten the top two teams in the division.
“However, too often, unfortunately, we don’t get to the level that we should be at and that’s incredibly frustrating for us all.
“That’s something we’ve got to repair because when we play like we did tonight, we know we can be a handful.
“We got after Bournemouth from the start and we managed to steal a few balls and put them under a bit of pressure.
“We got off to great start, which always helps in a big game.
“It was nice to see us score a couple of goals.
“There were plenty of good performances out there tonight but I thought Andy led the line in typical Andy fashion. He’s worked so hard to stay fit. I’m delighted for him.”
