Carlos Corberán | Albion aiming to be first team to win at Watford this term

Carlos Corberán says Albion will head down to Watford determined to do something no team in the Sky Bet Championship has done this season – win at the home of the Hornets.

Sunday afternoon’s hosts are enjoying an impressive unbeaten run at Vicarage Road, winning seven and drawing two of their nine league fixtures there in 2024/25.

Watford have also won two cup matches in front of their own supporters so far this term, keeping seven clean sheets from 11 encounters on home soil, including in all of the last four.

Boss Tom Cleverley, who represented the club just under 200 times as a player, was appointed in March. Albion’s opponents are yet to taste defeat under him at their stadium, and Corberán says the target is to become the first team to leave with maximum points.

Carlos said: “Watford have a very competitive squad and they have some players who could be playing in the Premier League. They’ve played in the Premier League before.

“Since they’ve gone with the new coach Tom Cleverley, they haven’t lost a game in their stadium. That is, of course, very difficult to do in a division as demanding as the Championship where there isn’t much difference between the teams.

“We have to go there with the mentality of doing what nobody in this division has done yet.

“We are aware of how well they have been playing in front of their own fans and of course it is going to be very difficult. They’ve won seven of their nine home games and have drawn the other two.

“We need to be focused on what we can do and believe we have the ability to go to Watford and achieve a positive result.”

It’s been another busy week for the Baggies who drew 2-2 with high-flying Sheffield United on Sunday before beating Coventry City 2-0 on Wednesday.

Corberán says two players are being closely monitored ahead of this weekend’s match.

He said: “We are evaluating two players at this moment.

“We don’t have new injuries to talk about, we have two players we have to evaluate on Saturday. Those two players are Karlan Grant and Grady Diangana.

“They arrive to Saturday’s training in different conditions. One is playing with some fatigue, and the other hasn’t played for a while because of a muscle injury.

“It’s two separate situations which will need evaluating in order to make the right decision for the game at Watford.”
