Carlos Corberán has revealed Conor Townsend will miss Albion’s next two Sky Bet Championship fixtures.
The defender was taken off during the second half of the Baggies’ 2-1 victory over Coventry City on Friday night.
Corberán told reporters in his QPR pre-match press conference the 31-year-old sustained a hamstring injury against the Sky Blues and will not feature in the capital on Wednesday night, or up at Huddersfield Town on Sunday lunchtime.
Carlos said: “Unfortunately we are going to be without Conor Townsend.
“In the last game he was feeling a little bit tight and there is a small injury in his hamstring. He’s going to be out of the next two games.
“We still have three players who can fill the left-back position. Adam Reach is one, Erik Pieters is another and Pipa is the final one.
“We have the option to play with a line of five at the back. We have possibilities and we need to see what threats the opponents are going to pose.
“We will decide how we want to attack and how we want to defend and then that will help us make the right decision on which player we pick.”
Brandon Thomas-Asante will also be absent for the clash with the Hoops at MATRADE Loftus Road Stadium as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.
The boss said: “With Brandon Thomas-Asante, the feeling is positive. We are going to manage him, the situation and the training we will now give him.
“Let’s say the best test is not going to be the scan right now, it’s going to be the work his muscle is ready to tolerate.
“When we understand it’s enough, then he will be back with the group.”
Albion take on a QPR side who have claimed three straight victories in the second tier.
Wednesday’s hosts earned a terrific 2-1 triumph at leaders Leicester City last weekend and Corberán thinks this particular fixture will be one of the most challenging for his players between now and the end of the campaign.
“It’s impossible for us to underestimate QPR after their win at Leicester in the last game. They’ve also won four of their last six games.
“It’s going to be one of the most challenging games we’ll have from now until the end of the season.
“You can only come to the Championship if you are a good coach. Marti Cifuentes has changed the position and the momentum of QPR.
“He’s brought an identity to the team, the squad and the club. That’s why they are picking up some very good results. It'll be a big challenge for us.”
