Carlos Corberán has confirmed club captain Jed Wallace is set to miss around three weeks of action.
The winger picked up a calf injury in the last week and didn’t feature in last weekend’s pre-season friendly against Birmingham City.
The boss says the issue needs to be managed in a calm way.
He said: “Unfortunately Jed Wallace suffered pain in his calf last week.
“He’s going to be out of the group for about three weeks, which means he isn’t available for tomorrow’s game at QPR.
“Let’s see how he progresses because I know he’ll push himself based on the type of character he is. It’s an injury we need to manage with calmness. It’s similar to the one Grady Diangana had and also John Swift.
“We know we have to be calm and manage it properly. He is one of the most important players in the squad, but we have to be calm.”
Albion have welcomed seven new players over the course of the summer.
Ousmane Diakité, Torbjørn Heggem, Joe Wildsmith, Paddy McNair, Devante Cole, Lewis Dobbin and Gianluca Frabotta are all available for selection down at QPR on Saturday lunchtime, and Corberán says it’s time to “adapt to reality”.
“Every new player is more than welcome, even if they’ve only had one or two days working with me.
“I expect every new player to be part of the group because we need them. Even if they haven’t completed a pre-season with us, now is the moment to adapt to the reality.
“Players who are going to appear for us in the competition are not here yet and I don’t know who they are yet at this moment. They will come and strengthen the squad and this a priority for us.
“We need all the players to work and be focused. Even if they didn’t complete a pre-season with us, they know the level they need to show on the football pitch.”
