Carlos Corberán said it was important for his players to get minutes within a competitive environment on Saturday afternoon, despite ultimately falling to defeat at Birmingham City.
The Baggies were beaten by Blues in their final pre-season friendly before the 2024/25 Sky Bet Championship campaign gets underway next weekend.
And, during a post-match chat with WBA TV, the boss spoke about the game, the transfer window, and a superb display of support from those in the away end.
“It’s always important to accumulate minutes for everyone to be ready for the first game of the competition,” said Corberán.
“We are in the period where we have one week until QPR - and it’s also true that we still have one month to strengthen the squad.
“It’s never going to be positive to finish pre-season with a result like that one, even understanding that we were playing against one team that is below the competition where we are going to play.
“We know that from next week, the games that we are going to play are going to be even stronger than what we played today.
“It means that still we need to do many things as a club and as a team to approach the Championship well.
“But we have a month in front of us that we need to use in the best level that we can as a club, understanding our possibilities and our resources, to be a competitive team, because for me that is what West Bromwich Albion deserves.”
On the travelling Baggies fans, Carlos added: “It’s the hardest pain that we have - when you know you need to do things better in front of the support that you receive.
“The love that we feel for the fans gives us strength. We need to take that energy to now do the things that this club deserves.”
