Carlos Corberán says it was really important for his players to “recover the feeling” of winning three points.
The Baggies beat Coventry City 2-0 at The Hawthorns on Wednesday night thanks to a first-half strike from Alex Mowatt and a fine Karlan Grant finish towards the end of the encounter.
Albion had drawn all of the previous four matches, but the triumph in front of their own supporters now means Corberán’s side are unbeaten in 12 league fixtures.
The boss says the group really wanted to give the fans a result to celebrate and were delighted to do just that.
He said: “It was really important for us to win at home because we wanted to celebrate winning three points with our fans.
“Our fans have always been backing us here inside our stadium and we couldn’t get wins for them.
“We have been trying, but we’ve been drawing more games than we have been winning and we wanted to recover the feeling. We know how important it is to win and we want to keep going when we are facing difficulties.
“We will always keep going until we achieve the result we want to achieve.
“It was important to score early and then it was important to protect the result. It’s true, we wanted to keep pressing and keep attacking, but in some moments, the attack didn’t work.
“The distances to control the game were not the right ones in the first half. We gave Coventry possibilities to attack more and that’s why we changed Josh Maja for John Swift over the break. It was important to have a midfielder as a number ten and not a striker as a number ten. It gave us the extra player in the middle of the pitch which helped us control the game.
“In general, I was pleased with the impact from the subs. It was important to recover control of the game with Swift coming on. On the sides, we needed energy. We were playing Sunday and then again tonight so we needed energy to keep the standards and to protect the points.”
