Carlos Corberán | Players working every day in pursuit of new 'identity'

Carlos Corberán is interviewed after Albion's game with Swansea

Carlos Corberán says his players are working “every single day” in their pursuit of an “identity” the club and its fans can be proud of.

Speaking after Jayson Molumby’s goal earned Albion a 1-0 win over Swansea City at The Hawthorns to maintain their unbeaten start, the Baggies boss insisted his side are fully focused on the task in hand.

“We are going to use every single day to improve,” said Corberán. “To see more types of this action, because this is what we want; to play better in attack, play in defence better, and to keep competing how the team is doing.

“I think it is very important that, now, we start to build behaviours in attack and defence with all of the team, and especially we are in one moment that is key for me, and that is to build our identity as a team, build a way we want to play, build a way how we want to compete, and I think the team is giving the right steps and direction to be a competitive team.

“That is what this club deserves and this is what we want, and I think now we are going to have a more competitive squad, and we are going to try and implement the ideas that coordinate all of us and continue to use the best level of each player that we have.

“So, I think every week will help us to grow as a team and this is the target that we have.”

Carlos also believes his team have a renewed resilience which stand them in good stead as the season progresses.

He added: “We had enough resilience and we have been suffering together, but fortunately they didn’t use the opportunity they had in the second half.

“The team, in the difficult moments, are suffering together - knowing that this is going to be the Championship, and we will keep improving every single aspect that can help us to win games.

“When you have a good squad that has very good attacking options, and is a team built to control the games with the ball, I think that we didn’t break the press in the second half in the same way we did in the first half.

“They recovered balls in our half which allowed them to believe more that they could score a goal. In defence, we put in intensity and we tried to recover balls in spaces of the pitch that you can’t recover the ball.

“But at the same time we had three players with yellow cards which made us more conservative in some behaviours that we needed to be, and with a good opponent with these type of things, we lost the control in the second half.

“When these things don’t happen, the game is going to be more open and we needed to be more resilient to manage and achieve the result.”
