Carlos Corberán reacts to Leeds draw at The Hawthorns

Carlos Corberán believes Saturday's draw with Leeds United at The Hawthorns was a fair result.

The Baggies and the Whites, who both finsihed inside the play-off positions last term, limited each other to very few opportunities in one of the lunchtime kick-offs in the Sky Bet Championship.

Jayson Molumby and Karlan Grant had the home team's best chances, firing at Illan Meslier and wide of the near post respectively, while at the other end, defender Pascal Struijk twice headed wide from set-piece situations.

The boss says he's pleased with the way his outfit nullified the visitors' threats and says they'll keep "growing" in terms of their attacking play.

Carlos said: “In terms of the chances that both teams created, I think a draw is a fair result.

“It was a game which didn’t produce many opportunities for either team.

“I think we controlled a lot of the ball, maybe about 60 per cent of it. We were much better on the ball. However, it’s true we need to keep growing to create more things in the attacking area of the pitch.

“That’s a target we have, but we need to make sure we aren’t losing control of the game.

“If you lose control of the game against a team like Leeds, then they can look a lot better than what they have done today.

“We managed to stop the way that they were pressing and we dominated a lot of the building of the attack. However, it’s true we didn’t find the way to beat the last line.

“We had some good moments in the early part of the first half down the right with Karlan Grant and some one-v-one situations with Tom Fellows, but we didn’t create all of the opportunities we wanted to create.

“For me, this is the way we need to grow. We need to keep the personality and keep the commitment in defence, but try to do more things in attack that will help us score more goals.

“When you analyse teams like Leeds, it’s normally the lack of accuracy which stops them from winning games. If you look at last weekend against Portsmouth and in the week against Middlesbrough, they were creating very big chances. It was just accuracy that made the difference.

“We knew today that we had to compete well and be well-organised. At the same time, we wanted to be brave and show personality in attack. We showed a good balance, but we can improve.”
