Carlos Corberán reacts to Rotherham defeat

Carlos Corberán is interviewed after Albion's defeat at Rotherham

Carlos Corberán admitted he was really disappointed with the performance Albion delivered at Rotherham United on Friday afternoon.

The Baggies were beaten 3-1 by the Millers at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, falling to Jordan Hugill's headed brace and Tariqe Fosu's late strike after John Swift had earlier given them the lead from the penalty spot.

And the boss believes his side failed to show the necessary "competitive levels" required to earn a positive result in South Yorkshire.

Carlos said: “I’m very disappointed with the result today and the way in which we were competing.

“We wanted the three points today but Rotherham grew into the game.

“I’m disappointed in the manner in which we conceded all three goals and I’m also disappointed that we were unable to answer the problems that the game was demanding.

“We couldn’t defend their direct balls and we couldn’t break their press either. We didn’t win enough second balls and we didn’t create enough in the attacking third.

“There are many tactical and performance questions that we need to analyse and review.

“We need to look at the way we compete in both boxes because they were stronger than us.

“We didn’t show enough of the competitive level that you must show on a football pitch.

“We spoke about the difficulty of the game before we went out onto the pitch. Of course, there is a difference in terms of the positions in the table, but that is not always the real story.

“The real thing is how each team performs in the game and we knew it would be a very tough game.

“They were aggressive and competitive. They’re similar to Millwall and we managed that game well last week against them, but today, we didn’t.

“The situation now demands a positive reaction against QPR. It’s what the club and the fans demand.”
