Carlos Corberán was pleased to see Albion “achieve the target” of reaching the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup thanks to a comfortable 4-0 win over Chesterfield on Tuesday night.
The Baggies eased through to the next stage of the competition courtesy of four different scorers – John Swift, Tom Rogic, Jake Livermore and debutant Jovan Malcolm.
And the boss says his side had a “responsibility” to progress and was glad to see them do so, setting up a tie at Bristol City.
Carlos said: “The team achieved the target that we set out to achieve.
“We had a responsibility to get through to the next round and thankfully we did that.
“The first goal was important for us and I was pleased to see John Swift score. I think the goal will help show him his possibilities. He was one of the best players of the game.
“He was the connection between the midfielders and the strikers and he was creating chances for us.
“They started to attack us more in the latter stages of the first half and we had to defend a little deeper.
“They were starting to dominate and we knew we had to correct that in the second half. We were better after the second goal and then up to the third goal, which gave us a clear advantage.
“They had a lot of possession after our third goal but then we went and scored right at the end.
“Jovan Malcolm’s goal was a very good action. It was nice to see him score.
“But, I am still watching the younger players to see if they can help us in the first team. That’s what our PL2 players should be aiming to do.”
