Carlos Corberán | We should've made scoreline even better

Carlos Corberán is interviewed after Albion's win against Coventry City

Carlos Corberán believes his side could’ve added more goals to their tally on Sunday afternoon.

The Baggies breezed to a comfortable 2-0 Sky Bet Championship victory over Bristol City at The Hawthorns thanks to Mikey Johnston’s first-half brace.

Albion were dominant throughout and created opportunities to increase the scoreline, but were unable to register further strikes.

The boss says the players struggled to create their own game in the opening stages, but insists he was impressed with the way they “adapted”.

He said: “We struggled a little bit to create our game in the first half. We were attacking more in our own half rather than the attacking half.

“It was difficult with the weather conditions and their shape to break the press, attack more and create chances.

“However, we were very clinical with the opportunities that we had. At 2-0, we had a level of confidence to go into the second half with.

“I liked the team more in the second half than in the first half, even with the fact we didn’t score in the second half and we scored two in the first.

“We should have finished the game with more than a two-goal advantage because we created some good opportunities which could’ve allowed us to score more goals.

“The fact that Mikey scored the first goal has probably given him the confidence to make the action for the second goal. We know that the second goal is an action which works very well for him, cutting inside and finishing.

“Sometimes when players take a lot of responsibility to finish the attacks, scoring one goal can help them achieve one level of finishing. Hopefully he can keep going because he is an important player for us.

“I think today the team found a better balance of creating chances and giving chances away. We didn’t create many chances and we created a lot more chances than the opponent. There are still things we need to work on, but I like to see to see the team adapting to the game and performing better with the passing of the minutes.

“We always want to give our fans three points whether it’s Christmas or not. We respect every game, but it’s true in this moment of the year it’s important to make them feel proud.”
