Carlos Corberán admits he and his players are motivated by the challenge of achieving “something special” when they head to Swansea City on Monday afternoon (ko 3pm).
The Baggies travel down to South Wales for the final day clash still in with a shout of claiming a Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Place, should they win and other results fall in their favour.
And the boss believes his players are ready for the fight following a “positive week”, with confidence, belief and desire all sky-high after last weekend’s victory over Norwich City.
Corberán said: “For me, the players are fully concentrated and have prepared well, firstly to recover from the high level of effort against Norwich and the previous weeks, to now where they are ready to face another important game. It is going to be tough and a game where we need to prepare with a lot of detail.
“I think we have had a positive week now that we have an opportunity to go into the final game of the season and improve our position in the table, knowing that if we do climb two or three places then the reward is something special in achieving a Play-Off place.
“There is always motivation among us, if you ask the players what they would prefer heading into the Swansea game - whether it be fighting for a play-off place or with no positive consequence after the game - then of course they would all go for the possibility that we now.
“I don’t think they have any type of pressure, the group right now have a lot of motivation and belief to improve our position and potentially achieve something special.
“We play every game to win the three points. I am not going to manage in a different way every time we play a football game at home or away. For me, we are going to need the desire and even the responsibility to do our best to win the three points.
“This is positive for me because when you arrive at this sort of scenario, you need to approach it with the same mentality and doing the same things that you have been doing during the season and by working together. We always want to see Albion winning games and when we’re not winning that’s when you need to manage differently.”
Carlos is under no illusions of the task at hand when they visit the Swansea.com Stadium on bank holiday Monday, with their opponents unbeaten in eight league games.
The sold-out travelling contingent can help them, though, says the gaffer – who was once again full of praise for the Baggies supporters.
“It’s going to be a very demanding game because we know how Swansea like to play and the results that they have achieved in the last eight games, where they have won six and drawn two,” added Corberán.
“We need to be full of concentration and be fully focused to perform at the level that this game will require from us.
“I think the fact that we will have a full away end is a credit to our fans. They always support the team and that is very special, but it’s even more special that they were doing the exact same even a few weeks ago.
“Our fans haven’t waited until we have the possibility to achieve a place in the top six, they were fully behind us and backing us even when we didn’t get a result and for me, that says a lot about our support and how committed they are to our club and our players.
“We need to reward that and do what we have been doing, giving our very best on the pitch for the shirt and making them very proud of the team.”
