Carlos Corberán's assessment of Cardiff City stalemate

Carlos Corberán is interviewed after Albion's draw against Cardiff

Carlos Corberán says Albion lacked a clinical edge against Cardiff City at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

The Baggies were held to a goalless draw by the Bluebirds in the Sky Bet Championship, their fourth straight point.

Darnell Furlong, John Swift, Uroš Račić and Josh Maja all went close, but not quite close enough to win the encounter.

The boss says there is a feeling of “normal frustration” but insists his group will work hard to find the “solution” to the challenges they’re facing at this present time in front of goal.

Carlos said: “I think the team put a lot of effort in to control the game and a lot of effort in to reduce the strengths of the opponent.

“We put a lot of effort in to be dominant and to attack. In the moments where we had chances we did well, but in other moments we didn’t do so well and we need to keep on improving in attack.

“We weren’t far away from scoring but we couldn’t do it and we didn’t achieve the result we wanted to achieve.

“When you don’t finish well it means the last action has not been clinical. We had possibilities in transition too to make our last pass better. It’s true we need to keep working in the last third to create more chances and to have more possibilities to score goals.

“I don’t like to say we were unlucky. What we have done in recent games has not been enough to win.

“We’ve lost only two games and we’ve kept seven clean sheets in our 12 league fixtures. This is a positive, but the fact we have only scored one goal in our last five shows us clearly that we need to make improvements.

“The players have a lot of desire to do things well. I cannot ask for more effort. The level of effort put in today to try and achieve three points was unbelievable.

“They have the normal frustration you have when you don’t win a game and the normal frustration you have when you feel as though you deserved a little bit more.

“That’s the Championship. It’s a marathon. It’s a long competition and it challenges you in many moments. It’s a challenging moment for us, but we need to find the way to be the strongest we can be.”
