Quevin Castro is aiming to impress in a more attacking role when Albion’s PL2 side face Norwich City on Monday night (ko 6pm).
The Portuguese midfielder has been deployed in a central midfield role since joining the Baggies in the summer of 2021, but recent matches have seen the 20-year-old used higher up the field.
Castro claimed an assist during the 4-3 PL Cup quarter-final triumph over Derby County and he's looking for more goal involvements against the Canaries, as Albion’s youngsters try to win their final home league game of the season.
Quevin said: “I feel comfortable playing on the wing because it allows me a lot more freedom in my role and I think it gives me more energy to press for the team.
“I prefer being in one-v-one positions. Those are where my strengths come into use and they allow me to get at people, attack and shoot. But playing there has definitely increased my hunger to fight for the team and I think I can give a lot more playing out wide as an attacker.
“I’ve expressed myself throughout the last couple of months. I’ve got nothing to prove to anyone, just myself, and I’m going to work my socks off to make sure I’m in contention to start the last few games, including the PL Cup semi-final.
“Goals and assists will be on my mind Monday but as long as I give my best out there, and the coaches see it, then there’s nothing more I can do.
“Norwich are a good team who’ve been with each other a while. I’m expecting them to be on the ball a lot, show energy and be lively.
“We can play neat football but then we can also do the dirty side as well when needed and we’ve shown we can grab wins playing either way.”
