Chris Brunt | Stoke point disappointing but club can move forward positively

Chris Brunt is interviewed after Albion's draw against Stoke

Chris Brunt says Albion are disappointed not to have picked up all three points at home to Stoke City, but insists the club can now move forward positively under Tony Mowbray.

Chris Brunt, helped by Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill, took charge of the club’s 1-1 draw in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon – their final match before handing the keys to new head coach Tony Mowbray.

The Potters went ahead early on when Nathan Lowe scored in front of the Brummie Road End, but the Baggies earned an equaliser in the second period when Mikey Johnston’s cross was turned in at the near post by Grady Diangana.

Brunt admits it was a shame not to finish on a victory after what has been a “team effort” behind the scenes.

He said: “It’s disappointing that we’ve not picked up three points today.

“They started the game better than us and they goal their goal, which was a scrappy goal to concede from our point of view.

“We responded really well after that, especially in the second half. We put them under a lot of pressure, kept the ball in their half of the pitch and played in good areas.

“Overall, we’ve had enough chances to win the game, but it wasn’t to be.

“If you’re not going to win it then you can’t lose it. I don’t think we were ever in any danger late on in the game.

“There has been no lack of effort today, or since the three of us (Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill) took charge. The lads have been great. It’s been a difficult period for everybody and it’s not been a normall scenario.

“Everyone has responded really well – the players and the staff – and everyone has got through it. Tony Mowbray is back in charge now and it’s a good time for everybody. He has a clear view of what he wants to do and how he wants to play.

“I’m sure he’ll have seen stuff today that he’s impressed with and stuff he’ll want to work on. The lads gave a good account of themselves. I’m delighted everyone can now move forward in a positive way.

“Everyone has been so supportive since Damia, Boaz and I took on this role. It’s been a real team effort and I’m thankful to everyone for how they’ve helped.”
