Darnell Furlong says he had one thought in his mind when the ball came to him on the edge of the box in second-half added time against Watford on Easter Monday.
The full-back received a square pass and fired in a fantastic equaliser in front of the Brummie Road End as Albion and Watford played out a 2-2 draw.
It was Furlong’s fourth goal of the season and his first on home soil since nodding in against Ipswich Town in November.
And the defender joked he took aim as a result of not having too many options.
Darnell said: “It was a nice goal and an important one at the end of the game.
“It was a crucial time to score, in dramatic circumstances.
“There was a point where we thought we might lose the game, but then we got the equaliser and after that, I thought we might even go on and win it.
“It’s always nice to score, but it would’ve been nice to have picked up three points too.
“There was only one thought in my mind when the ball came to me, purely because I don’t think there was much else on.
“Shooting was the only option I had and I managed to strike it quite well. I was really pleased to see it go in.
“I’ve had a few strikes from there which have gone in and a few from there which have been wayward.
“As a full-back, you find yourself in that position sometimes and it’ll come to your stronger foot. Sometimes it’s best just to give it a go.
“I think 2-2 was a fair result. They had spells and we had spells. Every point counts in this league, so we’ll keep going.”
