Daryl Dike says he won’t be getting “complacent” after netting his first Baggies goal last time out, as he discusses a range of topics in this weekend’s edition of Albion News.
The United States of America international came off the bench against Sunderland on Monday night to head home the winning goal as Carlos Corberán’s men sealed their fourth consecutive Sky Bet Championship victory.
It had been over a year in the making for the powerful Baggies forward, but as his feature in the regular ‘Talk us Through’ instalment states, avoiding complacency is something which has been reminded to Dike throughout his career.
The footballing bar was set for Daryl from a young age, with his brother, sister and cousin all playing up front during their careers in the game, giving the Edmund-born striker a “model” to go off at the beginning of journey.
From there, a “life-changing” decision was made when Dike signed the Generation Adidas contract before making his mark on the top stage with Major League Soccer outfit Orlando City.
Tussles with N’Golo Kante and Antonio Rudiger, receiving motivation as a young striker from fellow countryman Jozy Altidore, and the mental strain in football are all intriguing conversations which Daryl provides his view on in Saturday’s player feature.
But the getting the first goal in Albion colours at the Stadium of Light “out of the way” was the release the US attacker has needed since his arrival in B71, as he promises the Baggies faithful “100 per cent” ahead of the busy festive schedule.
Skipper Jake Livermore and boss Carlos Corberán use Saturday’s programme notes to pay tribute to beloved Club Doctor Julian Widdowson, who sadly passed away last weekend, as the Baggies prepare to pay tribute to ‘the Doc’ with a minute’s applause prior to kick-off on Saturday.
Tough-tackling left-back Evan Humphries completes the club content in our Academy Q&A section, as he chats about a variety of social topics about his development at The Hawthorns.
Programmes will be available at all the usual stalls in and around The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon. They can also be purchased from the Stadium Megastore, which is located outside the East Stand.
