There was huge disappointment for Semi Ajayi and his Nigeria side on Sunday night as they were beaten 2-1 by tournament hosts Ivory Coast in the AFCON final.
Ajayi completed 90 minutes at Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in the capital Abidjan.
The Super Eagles took a 1-0 lead into the break thanks a powerful header from their skipper William Troost-Ekong.
However, second-half efforts from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller secured the trophy for Ivory Coast.
Fellow Albion man Grady Diangana featured for DR Congo on Saturday in the third-place play-off against South Africa.
The winger started the encounter and got through 68 minutes before being replaced by Brentford attacker Yoane Wissa.
South Africa won 6-5 on penalties following a 0-0 scoreline in normal time.
