Albion Women head coach Siobhan Hodgetts-Still and defender Taylor Reynolds were left “delighted” with their resounding 4-0 victory over Sporting Khalsa at The Hawthorns on Sunday.
The Baggies notched two goals in each half to create a comfortable gap between themselves and the newly promoted FA WNL Northern Premier League outfit.
Both Hodgetts-Still and Reynolds were pleased with victory and the turnout as they eased to three crucial points in front of a jubilant crowd at the Shrine.
“It was a really pleasing performance,” Siobhan said. “Four goals, and a clean sheet at The Hawthorns, it doesn’t get much better than that.
“I think we dominated large parts of the game and deserved the win. I’m really proud of the players, they put in a performance worthy of such a crowd at The Hawthorns.
“Anyone who comes and watches us, we put in some great performances, whether that’s at Redditch or The Hawthorns. Playing here is a special occasion for staff and players.
“We had support from the fans and the girls, and I, loved being able to hear them throughout the game. We’re delighted that the girls have had the chance to play in front of such a crowd again.
“It was a bit wet to start with, but the sun was shining at the end. Please just continue to support us whether at The Hawthorns or Redditch, come and back us.”
Taylor agreed adding: “I think we did really well. I think there were spells where we dropped to lower standards than what we’re used to.
“I think for the majority of the game though, we played how we wanted to. We kept the ball how we wanted to and out of possession we looked solid so we can’t ask for much more than that.
“We love playing at The Hawthorns and we always do. It’s such a special occasion for all of us and we always appreciate the fans that come down to support us.”
Hodgetts-Still was elated to see her attacking players in among the goals and remained keen to stress the strength that her squad offers.
“I think we’ve brought in some good players in pre-season, we have options in the forward line and throughout the squad. Those players have got us assists and goals which is good and what we want.
“Making these additions has developed competitiveness throughout the squad, which can only be a good thing. For us, having this ability is a real positive, and long may it continue.”
Meanwhile, Reynolds, tasked with a new role on the right side of the Albion back three, has relished the benefits of learning a new system.
“Last year I wasn’t crazy about playing in that position. This season I’ve found my flow, and I’m enjoying that position.
“With this new formation in a back three, I feel I can thrive on the right of that. I find myself in the same areas, it’s just a case of being more aggressive and winning those duels as often as I can.”
Albion Women are next in action on Sunday, September 15 where they welcome Rugby Borough to the Valley Stadium in Redditch (3pm kick-off).
