Albion Women won 2-4 at Derby County in the FAWNL Cup Determining Round on Sunday afternoon.
Boss Siobhan Hodgetts-Still named a strong side for the clash but made a couple of changes, swapping out Phoebe Warner and Kate Evans for Lizzie Bennett-Steele and Abi Loydon.
Despite falling behind through Amy Sims’ 13th-minute goal, the Baggies struck straight back to level the scores inside 60 seconds when Bennett-Steele converted captain Hannah George’s cross.
And the turnaround was quickly completed via Maz Mahmood’s finish – the attacker getting on the end of Lucy Newell’s long pass and slotting home.
Just before half-time the Baggies then found their third, Fran Orthodoxou heading in George’s corner for her second in as many matches – and earned the outstanding George a second assist of the game.
Following the break, Derby pulled one back around the hour mark to make set up a nervy finale.
Albion stood firm, though, and sealed the victory with 10 minutes to play – George rounding off a perfect afternoon by scoring a penalty to make it 2-4.
The result ensures it’s two wins from two for new Head Coach Hodgetts-Still. Her team return to league action next Sunday, hosting Nottingham Forest at the Valley Stadium (ko 3pm).
