The hosts

Fleetwood Town made the perfect start to their 2024/25 campaign on the opening day.

Mark Helm's early goal was enough to collect all three points at home to Grimsby Town in what was their first fixture back in Sky Bet League Two having dropped out of the third tier last term - just their second relegation in their history.

The Cod Army spent a decade in Sky Bet League One and will have aspirations to get back there at the first attempt.

Charlie Adam, who represented Rangers, Scotland, Blackpool, Liverpool and Stoke City among others in his playing days, is the man in charge.

The 38-year-old is one of the youngest managers in the EFL and was appointed on New Year's Eve in 2023. He was unable to keep the club in League One, but will be determined to earn promotion this year. He has a record of seven wins, seven draws and ten defeats from his 24 matches.

The stats

Albion and Fleetwood Town will be meeting in a competitive match for the first time on Tuesday night.

The 2024/25 term will be just the 13th time the Cod Army have competed in the League Cup. Albion's opponents reached the EFL in 2013 and have stayed there since. The furthest they've gone in the competition is round three in 2020/21.

Fleetwood have been knocked out in the opening round of the tournament in nine of the 12 seasons they've taken part in it.

It's been 58 years since the Baggies last won the League Cup. Jimmy Hagan's men defeated West Ham United 5-3 on aggregate in 1966.

The last time Albion faced a team from Sky Bet League Two in the Carabao Cup was in 2020/21 when they secured a 3-0 victory over Harrogate Town at The Hawthorns.
