Foundation complete “rewarding” 150-mile cycle from Watford to The Hawthorns

A team of cyclists representing The Albion Foundation have completed their 150-mile cycle from Watford’s Vicarage Road stadium to The Hawthorns.

The group completed the giant feat over the course of three days, stopping at Didcot and Worcester along the way, before returning to The Hawthorns in time for Saturday’s fixture against the Hornets.

Along the way, the team encountered gruelling hills, the beating sun and endless country roads.

Events and Partnerships Coordinator Steve Meeson was delighted to see the team reunite for another mammoth bike challenge.

“It feels great,” Meeson said. “We’ve got quite a few under our belts now, it’s great to continue it year after year and raising vital funds.

“This one felt great, it was such a nice change to have good weather from start to finish. As people may well know we’ve had snow, rain and sleet in the past.

“It just makes it that much more enjoyable when the weather’s good. The cycle ride itself was really tough in terms of the mileage but we had some great countryside to go through, and the route was really rewarding.”

The team contained a mix of Cycle Challenge regulars, as well as Foundation Partners who were keen to support the efforts further.

“It was really encouraging to see new people on the Cycle Challenge,” Meeson said. “Obviously we’ve got a core of people that have done a number of challenges now, and to add to that with some enthusiastic newcomers was great.

“Even though we had the new people there, they mixed in really well with the existing guys and we had some great camaraderie within the group. The whole point of doing these trips is to raise money for the Foundation.

“It’s also great to give participants a goal, and a nice time along the way. We’re glad to add another to our portfolio and it’s brought in much-needed funds to continue our work.”
