New Baggies boss Carlos Corberán has already experienced the challenges of England’s second tier during his coaching career.
After retiring at the age of 23, the former goalkeeper began his days in the dugout by overseeing youth development in his native Spain.
Corberán - who has a doctorate in football - worked various roles before being promoted to the technical team at Spanish top-flight club Villarreal.
Carlos used spells as an assistant coach in Saudi Arabia to further improve his understanding of the game from a managerial perspective.
Two stints working lead roles in Cyprus provided a first taste of senior management, and paved the way for the Spaniard to earn himself an opportunity in England at Leeds United - balancing academy and first-team duties under Marcelo Bielsa between 2017-2020.
Assisting the Argentine in senior matters proved beneficial, with the now 39-year-old helping the Whites to promotion from the Sky Bet Championship as league winners. And Carlos used this success to begin a new chapter in his career by becoming Head Coach at local rivals Huddersfield Town.
It was an eye-catching tenure in West Yorkshire, with Corberán guiding the Terriers to the 2022 Play-Off Final in his second season. And the new Baggies boss will hope his return to England following a spell at Olympiacos will provide similar Championship progress.
