The Hawthorns plays host to thrilling England U21 victory over Portugal

Just under 15,000 supporters were in attendance to witness England’s U21 side defeat Portugal 4-2 in an entertaining international friendly at The Hawthorns on Monday night.

The Young Lions made a blistering start in B71, scoring twice inside the opening ten minutes.

Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney and Arsenal teenager Ethan Nwaneri both found the back of the net with efforts from the edge of the box.

The visitors then halved the deficit courtesy of forward Fabio Silva in the middle of the first period.

Lee Carsley's outfit had to wait until the 76th minute to restore their two-goal advantage - Omari Hutchinson nodding in from close range. 

Portugal made it 3-2 with five left on the clock when Carlos Borges dinked over Teddy Sharman-Lowe, but England wrapped up the triumph in added time when Jaden Philogene raced through and tucked the ball into the bottom corner.
