Albion Women secured a huge victory against Huddersfield Town at the Stafflex Arena on Sunday in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division.
Head coach Siobhan Hodgetts-Still made two changes from their last fixture. Hannah George dropped to the bench to make way for Olivia Rabjohn and Mariam Mahmood replaced Simran Jhamat on the left wing.
The Baggies began the game brightly and threatened from a set-piece within the first 10 minutes, centre-back Lucy Newell found herself with space to shoot on the edge of the area but her curled effort flew inches wide of the upright.
Huddersfield tried to match Albion in their early pressure - Caz Fields seeing an effort brilliantly saved by Anna Miller, the goalkeeper tipping onto the bar before claiming the rebound.
It was the Baggies who struck first, though. Rabjohn’s dangerous, flat delivery fell to Fran Orthodoxou, and she tapped the ball home for a crucial opener.
Rabjohn’s ability to cause problems from that right-hand corner continued, and she soon swung in yet another cross with poise. This time Taylor Reynolds was there to knock it down, and Jess Reavill smashed it into the net to double Albion's advantage.
Huddersfield tried to respond at the beginning of the second period, yet found little luck in front of goal. Yasmin Mason was the first to fire high and wide as the Terriers attempted to carve out opportunities of their own.
Delphi Cole could have added a third for the Baggies when she snuck into the penalty area and produced some trickery, eventually drilling a shot towards goal which was bravely blocked by a home defender.
Despite a penalty for the hosts with the last kick of the game, Beth Ibbotson converting from the spot, Albion ultimately held firm and marched to a well-earned three points in West Yorkshire.
