Ismaël: 'We’re back on track'

Ismaël post-Coventry

Boss Valérien Ismaël believes Saturday’s victory at high-flying Coventry City puts his side “back on track”.

Karlan Grant’s smart finish was followed up by Kyle McFadzean’s own goal as the Baggies became just the second Championship team to leave the CBS Arena this season with three points, despite McFadzean's late consolation.

Ismaël was quick to praise his players’ “mentality” and defensive resolve, insisting it’s now crucial to build momentum in a bid to claw back further ground on the top two AFC Bournemouth and Fulham.

He said: “We are back on track.

“I have to say congratulations to the players. They showed a great mentality on Saturday.

“Credit to Coventry. It’s certainly not an easy place to come and get positive results.

“They played with a lot of energy and intensity and they tried to match us in that respect, so we needed to stay strong.

“The first half was brilliant. We scored the goal like we wanted, pressing from the front and it was a great finish.

“It turned into a bit of a fight in the second half. Coventry tried to do everything. We tried to stay stable and stand up to the waves.

“They finally found a way to score but I was never nervous on the side. I knew we were really strong defensively.

“It was a great team performance. We’re delighted to be back on track with these three points.

“We know that we can beat anyone in this league. We have to stay focused on our job.

“We have to build momentum now. The most important thing is Reading at home next week and I’m delighted I have a whole week again to prepare the team.”
