Albion Women defender Izzy Green says she’s “learning” from her centre-back competition as the FAWNL Northern Premier Division teeters towards its conclusion.
On-loan Women’s Super League pairing Jess Reavill and Lucy Newell have played the majority of minutes, meaning Green has had to remain patient on the sidelines.
The 20-year-old, who made her first start for 11 weeks against Stoke City on Sunday, insists she’s come back stronger after watching Reavill and Newell play together.
She said: “It was great to get 90 minutes out there. I’m really happy about being back in the starting line-up as well.
“It's really important for me to play and to get some minutes in my legs.
“Lucy and Jess are just class players and I'm learning from them as well. They’ve got the experience and then, you know, playing for England and top clubs at WSL level.
“It's just about learning what I can from them in training and from watching them if I am on the sidelines. When I get my chance, I want to perform and show why I’m starting.”
The Baggies fell to an unfortunate defeat at the bet365 Stadium in their penultimate game of the season, with a clash against league champions Newcastle United coming up.
Green said: “I thought Stoke was a good game for us. I thought we did play well in parts of the encounter.
“Ultimately we just didn't do enough to get the three points. Everyone at the moment is a bit gutted.
“We started the game well for the first 15-20 minutes and got ourselves a goal. There were two good goals for them, one of them on the counter.
“For the other one, just defending in and around the box - that needs to be better. I think it's difficult to pinpoint where we went wrong until we go back to training and we watch it back.
“We’ll be buzzing for Newcastle, we’ll prepare well again during the week and we’re really excited. I think it'll be a really good game.
“The last time we played it was only a 1-0 loss. I thought we did well defensively.
“It’ll be the same again and we’ll do our best to get a result.”
