Jayson Molumby | Blades clash was a 'battle'

Jayson Molumby is interviewed after Albion's draw at Sheffield United

Jayson Molumby described Albion's encounter with Sheffield United as a "battle".

The Baggies and the Blades fought to a 1-1 draw at Bramall Lane, with Andre Brooks' strike cancelled out by Karlan Grant's leveller in first-half stoppage time.

Molumby produced an outstanding performance in the middle of the park, driving his side forward and throwing himself into challenges all over the pitch - a display which earned him the Man of the Match award.

The Republic of Ireland international says the players stuck together after falling behind and believes the point gained was a fair one.

Jayson said: “It was a battle out there. We probably started off a bit slow and we knew it was going to be tough here with the atmosphere and the fact they’re top of the league.

“As I say, we probably started a bit slow and we paid the price for that, but we showed character to come back.

“Personally, I probably started a little bit slow just like the rest of the team but I grew into it. The boys stuck together.

“I know it’s a point and we always want to get all three, but it was a tough game and an even game. Both teams probably deserved a draw.

“I feel like today is a good point but I do believe we have perhaps underachieved this season. That’s how we’re looking at it because we believe in ourselves.

“For me, I believe in the team and we all believe in each other and we’re disappointed to be where we are. We’re still hanging in there and trying to pick up wins.

“Alex Mowatt has been absolutely brilliant this season, but I have to say, Ousmane was brilliant. It was tough game for him to come in and it was just his second start in the Championship. Sheffield United away is tough and I thought he was brilliant. Credit to him for that.

“We went 1-0 down so we had to take the shackles off, but then in the second half we started really well. We had a good ten or 15 minute period where we were on top of them.

“It then turned into a 50/50 where either team could’ve nicked it. A draw was probably a fair result after that.

“Fair play to Damia Abella, Chris Brunt and Boaz Myhill. Obviously Damia has been around for a while and Brunty and Boaz have sacrificed their Christmas and New Year plans. That’s why they’re legends at this club. They’re here and giving up their free time to help out. That’s the type of people they are. Fair play to them.

“We’re still in and around the top six. Hopefully we can take this momentum into 2025 and our game with Preston at The Hawthorns.”
