Jayson Molumby | It was unbelievable to be back at The Hawthorns

Jayson Molumby is interviewed after playing Leeds at The Hawthorns

Jayson Molumby says it was "unbelievable" to be back out on the pitch at The Hawthorns for the first time since the end of December 2023.

The Baggies midfielder, who started in the middle of midfield for the second consecutive Saturday, missed the whole of the second half of the 2023/24 campaign with a foot injury.

Irishman Molumby completed 90 minutes of the 0-0 draw against Leeds in B71 before being swapped for Ousmane Diakité.

And Jayson says the feeling of being back out in front of the crowd is one which is hard to describe.

He said: “It was an unbelievable feeling to be back out there and playing football.

“Getting injured last time out against Leeds and then being out for six or seven months was really tough.

“I was delighted to be back playing at The Hawthorns. I can’t put into words how difficult being out injured was. It was a really poor time in my life.

“It’s hard to describe the feeling you get when you walk out to 25,000 fans every week. That adrenaline and that buzz is something I’ve missed massively.

“To have it back is amazing. To be out with the boys in that atmosphere was unbelievable.

“I do feel fit. Tiredness can be in the mind if you give in, but I keep telling myself I’m alright because I want to give my best for the team and the club.

“I feel like my fitness is decent and I want to build on it.

“I think a draw was a fair result, but we didn’t take our chances. We were dominant on the ball and out of possession. Our game plan worked well. We just needed to be more clinical.

“I had a great chance myself and there were one or two other good opportunities. Maybe it was the final ball or final decision, or things not quite dropping. We didn’t quite make use of the good possession we had.

“I think the boys are happy we’ve picked up four points from two games. We’ve lost a lot of experience and there’s been a big overhaul. Hopefully we’ll get a few more players in to give us a hand so let’s see what we can do this season.”
