Jayson Molumby paid tribute to Albion’s players, staff and supporters after his side’s 1-0 victory over Reading on Monday afternoon.
The Irish midfielder played an important role in the Baggies’ Sky Bet Championship triumph, getting the assist for Daryl Dike’s winning goal with a fantastic cross - rounding-off an eye-catching performance at The Hawthorns.
But he deflected the spotlight from himself onto his team-mates, and also reserved special praise for the 25,322 fans in attendance.
“It’s been a tough few weeks over the Christmas period, but coming out with three wins in a row is a show of our character,” said Jayson.
“Some of our performances recently have been excellent.
“We’re confident, we all believe that no matter what happens or how we’re playing, we’re good enough to get three points. We have that resilience now in the squad.
“I had to try and make up for my miss. It was a big chance in the first half. I was happy to contribute with an assist and put that to bed.
“A good ball is only made by the striker’s movement. Credit to Daryl, he deserves that. He’s had a tough period and to get that second since he’s been back is brilliant.
“He’s a great lad and he’s had horrible luck. Thankfully that’s starting to turn for him, and he’s showing his quality which we knew he had from early on. We’re delighted for him and delighted for the team.
“In the first half we had a lot of the ball and moved them around. Maybe we didn’t quite finish off moves how we’d like.
“We knew they would tire eventually. It was a tough 45 in the first half for them. It was more of the same in the second half and eventually we got our reward.
“In the Championship, you have to earn every single win and every single point.
“There’s no point in us taking draws or nicking points here and there. We’re going into every game wanting to win. Credit to the manager, his staff and all the boys because that’s the mentality we have now.
“Our mentality is the same every game. We know we need to be at it to get anything in this league. We’ve got a strong group of lads in there and we’re really enjoying it at the moment.
“The fans have a big part to play in that. It’s been tough for them, the last year or so. We understand that. It’s been tough for us.
“But they stick behind us, even today it was tough at times and a bit frustrating.
They stick with us because they can see what we’re trying to do, the work ethic and everything we’re putting in.
“They’ve been massive to have behind us.”
