Jeremy Sarmiento says it was a “crazy feeling” to see the ball hit the back of the net and seal a huge three points for Albion at Cardiff City on Tuesday night.
The Ecuador international cut in from the left flank and curled home a beauty from just outside the area inside the opening five minutes of the second-half – his first goal away from The Hawthorns.
And Jeremy says he was determined to impress after being handed a start in the Welsh capital.
The winger said: “It was a crazy feeling. All I wanted to do was get a shot off - I felt like we needed that in the game, we didn’t shoot much.
“I thought I would just get a couple of yards and shoot, and hope for the best. Luckily it went in.
“The banter’s there in the dressing room. They were trying to say I didn’t really mean it! But a goal is a goal. I’ll take it.
“It was very nice to start. It’s good to get that confidence back by being in the team and the starting line-up.
“Obviously I’ll be hoping for more opportunities moving forward to help the team get more points.
“It was a very hard game for me. It was scruffy at the start and they (Cardiff) are a physical side. I had an elbow that gave me a bloody nose as well.
“But you get games like that, and it was good to pick up the points.
“The momentum is there. All of the lads know that game-by-game, we’re getting better and better. To top the performances off with wins, it’s what we need to get to where we want to be and reach our objectives.
“Looking ahead to the weekend, Leicester are a very good side but we aren’t scared of the big teams. We’ve shown that we can get wins, we’re ready for it and we’re up for it.”
