John Swift accepted he should’ve ended the day on the scoresheet against Norwich City at The Hawthorns.
The creative playmaker had a flurry of goalscoring opportunities in the 1-0 win over the Canaries on Boxing Day, but just couldn’t find the finishing touch to cap off what was a fine individual display.
A combination of the woodwork, Angus Gunn in-between the sticks and efforts which narrowly missed the target denied Swift a first goal since October, but despite the personal frustration, the 28-year-old says he was delighted to see Brandon Thomas-Asante bag the winner.
He said: “It was frustrating for me and for Jed as well probably.
“He put it on a plate for me twice. I should have got at least one goal today.
“I’m happy for Brandon getting on the scoresheet again here at The Hawthorns, especially scoring the goal that he did. He saved me a little bit today because I definitely should have scored.
“Every game that I play I always try and pop up in the right positions.
“With Jed down the right, he’s got a great cross and when he lifts his head up he can put it on a plate for you. He did that today twice for me.
“I think I was a bit unlucky with the first one. The way the ball was spinning, I thought it was going to hit the post and go in.
“The second one, maybe I can put that down to being a little bit rusty. It was on a plate on the floor but I just mis-kicked it.
“After that, it just seemed like I was shooting from everywhere.
“It was a good game to play in from our point of view but I think if the red card doesn’t happen, I still think we would have been dominant. We were dominant before it.
“We could’ve been 2-0 up before the red card. The card comes and it gives everyone a boost because we know we’ll have more of the ball.
“We had more of it anyway. It was a case of being dominant with it and create as many chances as possible.
“We probably could have scored more, but we got the one and stopped them creating anything other than the one Palms made a great save from at the end.
“I thought we were solid today.”
