John Swift says Albion’s confidence is growing with each win they secure at The Hawthorns.
The Baggies made it ten victories from 11 matches in all competitions in B71 on Saturday afternoon, beating Huddersfield Town thanks to Swift’s first-half penalty.
And the playmaker says despite the performance not being to highest level the players are capable of producing, wins which have to be ground out are massive for morale.
He said: “I thought we were really dominant in the first half, especially on the ball.
“We created some good chances and then, ultimately, it came down to a good bit of play on the left side where Conor did really well to win the penalty.
“Overall the first half was a lot better than the second. The last 15 minutes were a bit scrappy and I can’t imagine it was the best game to watch after a tough run of fixtures and not a lot of time of recovery for the lads.
“But it’s a great win, another clean sheet, and we’re on a bit of a roll at home at the moment.
“Every time we win the confidence grows, especially at home. We seem to be solid in defence and ruthless in attack.
“Wins like that are massive. Everyone found it tough at the end but getting another goal and a clean sheet is massive for the squad and the confidence.”
Swift resumed responsibility of penalty duties in the absence of regular takers Brandon Thomas-Asante and Karlan Grant.
It was his first for the club, but the 27-year-old says he’ll happily step up and take more for the Baggies after successfully converting in front of the Smethwick End.
“I didn’t have to push anyone (for the penalty). Me and Dike were looking at each other wondering who would take it, but I felt confident to take the ball.
“That was the first one I’ve taken for Albion, my last three for my former club I put away, so I felt confident stepping up and it was a good penalty.
“I don’t want to put pressure on myself. At the beginning of the season I was on free-kicks, but I seem to keep missing them.
“So if I feel confident in a game for a penalty then I’ll take every one, but it’s all about confidence and if it falls to me again on another day, I’ll happily step up.”
