Karlan Grant | Albion reflecting on the positives during international break

Albion forward Karlan Grant says he and his teammates are reflecting on the positives as they take check during the international break.

The Baggies sit fourth in the Sky Bet Championship table after a promising start to the 2024/25 campaign, amassing 17 points from nine games so far.

And while the last three results have slowed down their early-season momentum, the 27-year-old believes there are plenty of positives to take from the Baggies' start to the season.

He said: "I think if someone said you’ll have 17 points at this point of the season, I think we’d have been happy with that.

“The way we started, we would’ve wanted more. With only one point from our last three games, that’s difficult for us to take as players and obviously for the coaching staff too.

“But we can only look at the positives around how we’ve started this season and we’ve got to try and continue that and bounce back in our next game."

Grant has featured in each of Albion's league fixtures since returning to the club from his loan spell with Cardiff City last term.

Plenty of hard work behind-the-scenes has been put in by the attacker to earn him a starting role in Carlos Corberán's team this time around, and Karlan has been thrilled to see the supporters recognising this too.

"I’m an experienced player, I know what I need to do as a professional," he continued.

“Obviously I’ve had conversations with the gaffer and he’s been happy with the work I’ve been doing and I’ve been happy as well.

“I’ve been working hard and trying to stay in the team and help the team as much as I can and it’s been good.

“It’s always nice to get the appreciation from the fans. I’m an Albion player, so I obviously want them backing me and it’s a nice feeling.

"It always helps when you’re doing well as a team too. I’m happy to be back and I just want to continue doing what I can for the club."

Grant is joined in Albion's forward ranks by the likes of Jed Wallace, Josh Maja, Lewis Dobbin, Mikey Johnston, Tom Fellows and Devante Cole, and with Daryl Dike also working towards a return to full fitness, the boss has ample options to work with in the final third.

But the Baggies' No.18 says the squad are embracing the competition for places, with the cut and thrust of the division now in full flow.

Grant said: "I think it’s a competitive squad and that’s how it should be.

“All of the most successful teams have a lot of competition within them, and we want to be a successful team so it’s always good to have that.

“When you look at the squad, especially that top half of the pitch, we’re looking really strong.

"We obviously need to freshen things up from time to time too. Last time out was our first time having a three-game week, so we needed to mix things up. That’s important, especially when you’ve got a good squad.

“Making changes is important to keep everyone on their toes, so it’s good that we’re able to rotate the squad and have strength throughout the squad.

“The break did come at a good time, but it’s annoying when you look at the three games prior and during that time off, you reflect and think how we could have done things better.

“But overall it’s a good chance to refresh and recharge before getting back into it against Oxford."
