Four Baggies players featured for their loan clubs away from Hawthorns HQ on Saturday.
Tom Fellows had the best weekend, helping Crawley Town to a much-needed three points in Sky Bet League Two with an assist in their 2-1 home victory over Newport County.
The Albion winger delivered a perfect pass to James Tilley who slotted in the game’s opening goal. Ashley Nadesan added a second for the hosts and despite Nathan Moriah-Welsh’s late cracker from range, Fellows’ side held on to move off the foot of the table.
Tom completed 72 minutes at the People’s Pension Stadium, with Aramide Oteh coming on to replace him.
In the Sky Bet Championship, there was disappointment for defender Cedric Kipre as his Cardiff City team fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Coventry City.
Kipre played the full 90 minutes in Wales where Viktor Gyokeres’ first-half goal was enough to send the Sky Blues back to the Midlands with all three points.
In the third tier of English football, teenager Caleb Taylor completed the whole match for Cheltenham Town who slipped to a frustrating 4-1 defeat to Bristol Rovers.
Aaron Collins (2), Anthony Evans and Bobby Thomas all scored for Rovers. Liam Sercombe converted a spot-kick for the hosts early in the second 45, but it proved to be nothing more than consolation for Taylor’s Town.
Midfielder Quevin Castro was involved for Notts County as they suffered a surprise 3-2 defeat at home to Coalville Town in the first round of the Emirates FA Cup.
Castro started at Meadow Lane and played 53 minutes before being replaced by Rúben Rodrigues. Sam Austin bagged a brace for the Vanarama National League side, with Tom McGlinchey (2) and Ashley Chambers finding the net for Coalville.
Goalkeeper Josh Griffiths will be hoping to feature for Portsmouth on Monday night when they travel to Charlton Athletic in Sky Bet League One.
