Lucy Newell has left Albion Women following close to a decade at the football club.
The talented defender - who joined the Baggies aged nine - was dual registered with Manchester United throughout the 2023/24 campaign.
A lifelong supporter, she progressed through the ages to reach the senior team when just 16 years old.
Lucy has also represented her country at youth level during her time with Albion, recently captaining England’s Under-19s.
And head coach Siobhan Hodgetts-Still was full of praise for Newell as she paid tribute to the centre-back.
“She’s a great player and an incredible person,” said the boss.
“Lucy just loves football - she always wants to learn and get better. She will do everything possible to be the best she can be. There’s a real drive to go and reach the top level.
“I’m really proud of the journey she’s had, and that we as a football club have been part of it.
“I know everyone will join me in wishing her the very best going forward, we’ll certainly be supporting her from afar.”
And, speaking after her final match against Newcastle last weekend, Lucy explained it had been an “honour” to play for her childhood team.
She said: “I always wanted to come back here because West Brom’s my team, and to play so many minutes at my club is an honour.
“I’ve learnt so much playing women’s football and especially in this league, it’s such a tough one.
“I’ve had experiences and lessons that I’ll take and learn from. I’ve loved it. I was so nervous coming into the first team initially, I remember my first game last season – everyone was so lovely. The girls have been lovely with me from minute one.”
“I started at West Brom when I was nine and Siobhan was one of my first coaches, it’s been emotional to play under her in some way.
“When I found out she got the job I was so happy. I love Shev and I love the belief she had in me to play every single week. I’m thankful for her and all she’s done for me.”
