Harry Whitwell notched his ninth goal of the campaign from the penalty spot to halve the deficit two minutes from time after Hazeem Bakre and Rio Patterson-Powell's efforts had given the hosts a commanding lead.
Sadly for Richard Beale's young Baggies, it was a lead 'Boro held onto - meaning the Black Country hopefuls missed out on the Premier League 2 Play-Off positions this term, but ended the campaign with an improved 18th-placed finish on the previous season.
