Mo Faal is challenging himself and Albion’s PL2 side to be “ruthless” in front of goal when they host Derby County at Keys Park on Friday night (ko 7pm).
The Gambia-born forward has scored once in the young Baggies’ opening three Premier League 2 games this term, producing a smart finish during Richard Beale’s side’s last away game against Sunderland.
But after dropping two points against the Black Cats, Faal is determined to get in more of the right positions against the Rams and add to his goal tally, as the 19-year-old looks to help Albion’s youngsters earn their second league win of the campaign.
Faal said: “We’ve had a mixed start to the season.
“We’ve won, drawn and lost in the league, so we’re looking to get more wins on the board now just like we did last season.
“As for me, you could say it’s been a dry spell with just the one goal but hopefully I can add to that on Friday and then that’ll carry me onto getting more going forward.
“The chances are there but it’s just about that final product, maintaining concentration and making sure I get the right technique. Strikers don’t mind those easy goals to get their tally up, but I just need to get in between the posts and look to poach more in the games to come.
“Derby haven’t had a great start so we won’t be underestimating them, but we’ll be looking to capitalise on the chances we create and the way we’ve been playing recently.
“We were taught a lesson in our last league game against Sunderland. If we go ahead in games, we can’t afford to coast - we have to continue being ruthless throughout the game because anything can happen as the Sunderland result showed.
“We dropped two points in our last league match so it was a little learning step for us, but we’ll be looking to right our wrongs in the game on Friday.”
