Albion Women were beaten 3-0 by Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon.
The game was played in front of a large crowd at St. James Park as part of the Sela Cup, which saw two men’s matches also played there earlier in the day.
Newcastle, who turned professional earlier this summer, went into half-time with a narrow lead thanks to Bridget Galloway’s close-range finish just three minutes before the break.
Siobhan Hodgetts’ side remained resolute for much of the second period but conceded two late goals as Becky Ferguson and Cara Milne-Redhead rounded-off the scoreline for the hosts.
The teams will meet again in the FAW National League Northern Premier Division on Sunday, December 3.
Albion complete their pre-season preparations by hosting Rugby Borough next Sunday (August 13).
