Albion Women were beaten 7-2 by FA WNL Northern Premier champions Nottingham Forest at The City Ground on Sunday.

The hosts held a half-time advantage after Phoebe Warner’s cool finish had initially put the Baggies ahead.

Forest then scored five second half goals either side of a Marli Rhodes long-range effort to secure them promotion to the Championship.

Albion are next in action on Tuesday, April 29 (19:45 ko) when they take on Rugby Borough in their Birmingham County FA Challenge Cup final at the Poundland Bescot Stadium, Walsall.

Manager Siobhan Hodgetts-Still made four changes to the side that were narrowly defeated by Stoke a fortnight ago. Naomi Sharp was handed her full debut, while Izzy Green, Mariam Mahmood and Ellie May all got restored to the XI.

The Baggies silenced the expectant crowd on Trentside within eight minutes. May slid Warner through on goal, leaving the midfielder to curl a calm finish past Emily Batty to notch against her former side.

Forest responded before half-time, though. May was adjudged to have fouled Nat Johnson in the penalty area, so Charlie Wellings stepped up to send Lavarna Johnson the wrong way for their equaliser.

Albion went close through Rhodes, but Sophie Domingo gave the hosts the lead on the stroke of the interval after a well-worked free-kick.

Forest started the second period in similar vein, as Mel Johnson lobbed stand-in goalkeeper Hannah George with a delicate finish. The forward notched her brace moments later with a near-identical strike.

Rhodes’ superb strike from the halfway line, which flew over goalkeeper Batty, ensured the visitors secured another notch on the scoresheet.

Yet the hosts polished off their victory through Holly Manders, while Johnson also secured her third and fourth of the afternoon - leaving them to lift the title after full-time.

Albion: Johnson (Haughey 45’); Sharp, Green (Reynolds 49’), Oliver, George; Evans. Rabjohn (Watkins 49’); Warner (Jhamat 61’), May (Janny 61’), Mahmood; Rhodes.
