Albion Women midfielder Phoebe Warner says she was really "pleased" to score her first goal at The Hawthorns in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Burnley.
Warner bagged her maiden strike in four outings at the Baggies’ home this weekend, pouncing on a Clarets mistake to prod in and give the home side an early lead.
The visitors bounced back with an equaliser just inside the second period, but the midfielder remains positive about a solid point in B71.
She said: “It was amazing, I think Liam [Wall, first team coach] always tells me in training to make that run to the back post. I saw the ball come in and I just gambled and poked it and it was a really good feeling.
“I saw the ball coming in and I just thought it was one of those heights where you've just got to gamble and go for it. I did and it paid off.
“I was really pleased, I think we all worked so hard and we put into practice what we've been working on in training. So it was amazing to see it all come out.
“I'm really proud of the girls because it was a really tough game and they gave it their all for 90 minutes.”
Albion made a huge improvement on their 3-1 defeat to the Clarets in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division in November.
Warner said: “I think the game earlier on in the year, just shows how far we've come as a team. It was quite close then, I remember they countered us a couple of times.
“I think today it just shows the growth of the team. I'm really proud of everybody, the coaching staff and all of us.”
The Baggies were greeted by hundreds of supporters as they walked out onto the hallowed turf, with Warner hoping days like Sunday can inspire the next generation of female footballers.
She said: “I think it's great to see so many young girls come down that have been sort of inspired and hopefully we've inspired them to carry on playing, whether that's at school or in clubs. I think if you can see it then you can be it.
“I'm really proud of them, very proud of us, and thank you to them.”
Albion Women are next in action on Thursday, March 14, against Stourbridge at The Paycare Ground, Darlaston in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division.
