Albion Under-21s will be keen to carry their momentum into Monday night’s Black Country derby against Wolverhampton Wanderers (ko 7pm).

They made it eight games undefeated in all Premier League youth competitions last time around, and the morale gained from such a run will provide Richard Beale’s team with a good platform to work from against a tough local rival under the lights.

Last time out

Newcastle United were the latest team to be overcome by the young Baggies.

The academy hopefuls won 3-1 in Solihull as Eseosa Sule’s brace, along with a fine Akeel Higgins effort, rounded off a comfortable PL2 victory for Albion.

Venue

Monday’s match will be played at Wanderers’ main venue for 21s football, Aggborough Stadium.

It is the home ground of National League North outfit, Kidderminster Harriers, and a place where Wolves have played their academy matches for several seasons.

Pre-match thoughts

Richard Beale admits the derby element of Monday’s match will be in the minds of his players, but hopes they can channel that added emotion in the right way.

It’s an occasion he’s looking forward to and insists he will prepare his team well accordingly if they are to come away with a positive result against their Black Country counterparts.

“We’ve definitely seen improvement in all of the boys this season,” said Beale.

“We want as many of them to be around the first team as possible but, unfortunately, they’re not all going to do it but if we can get one or two a season in and around the senior side at Albion, then that’s great.

“Even the one’s who don’t do that, if we can help them get a career in the game then that’s what we’re all about here.

“The next match is, of course a local derby and as Albion staff, we want to beat everyone locally and nationally.

“But when it’s a local game, there’s always a little bit more on it which is great.

“As I say, though, it will be tough fixture for our lads and we’ll be preparing accordingly for it, as I’m sure Wolves will be too.

“We look forward to Monday night now and will see what it brings.”
