Semi Ajayi helped steer the Nigeria Super Eagles to the AFCON 2023 finals with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Sierra Leone on Sunday evening.
The Baggies defender completed 90 minutes of action in Monrovia where Kelechi Iheanacho’s injury-time winner sealed a spot at the tournament which is set to be held between January and February 2024 in Côte d'Ivoire.
Napoli forward Victor Osimhen bagged a first-half brace to put Ajayi’s nation in a commanding position, but Sierra Leone struck twice to draw level heading into the closing stages.
However, Iheanacho’s last-gasp effort means Nigeria will be competing in the showpiece event in the winter.
They are top of their qualifying group with one more match to play, a fixture against Sao Tome and Principe in early September.
Congratulations, Semi!
