Shannon Stamps’ brace helped Albion Women return to winning ways with a 2-0 victory at Sheffield FC on Sunday.
Stamps fired the Baggies ahead inside five minutes by striking superbly into the top corner following a flurry of early pressure – and almost scored again when another effort hit the post.
She then notched her second of the afternoon midway through the first half, this time completing a mazy run through the Sheffield defence and finishing low past the goalkeeper.
A good save from the visitors’ No.1 prevented Stamps netting a hat-trick before the interval – and a goalless second period ensured Jenny Sugarman’s side earned all three FA Women’s National League North points.
“We’re obviously delighted with the result,” said the Baggies boss.
“They were always going to be hard to break down, but quality up top from Shannon and Evie (Gallop) was very difficult for them to control early on.
“I feel we created a lot more than the scoreline showed, and we need to learn to become ruthless in time.”
The Baggies return to Coles Lane this Sunday to face Brighouse Town (KO 2pm).
