Albion Women head coach Siobhan Hodgetts-Still says her squad are "absolutely buzzing" with their BCFA Challenge Cup SF win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Baggies secured progression thanks to Ali Miller’s early strike - while also keeping a hard-earned clean sheet - ensuring they'll get a shot at silverware this season.

And the head coach expressed her delight for the club reaching its first cup final since 2022, as well as her first as head coach.

“I feel like all the staff, all players are absolutely buzzing,” Hodgetts-Still beamed. “It's been a few years since the club have been into a final.

“We’re all really looking forward to the occasion and we'll give it everything.

"I thought Villa did very well in terms of keeping the ball and shifting us and moving us.

“But our out-of-possession shape was excellent and we had some really good counter-attacking moments as well, which we scored from. I thought we managed the game well.”

Seren Watkins was handed the captain’s armband for Sunday’s win, and while the midfielder was keen to praise her teammates, she admitted it was an honour to be given that responsibility.

“It was really proud moment for me," said Seren. "I always got onto the pitch and try to be a leader, so to have the armband is something that’s  a pleasure.

“I think the past few games, they haven't really gone our way and we've been quite disappointed with the results we've got. So Wednesday (against Stourbridge) was a big change for us.

“I think we showed what we could do and obviously we got the three points. We took that positivity into today and obviously we’re through to the next round and the final, which is massive for us.”

Despite the pause for thought offered to Hodgetts-Still’s side over the next two weeks, where they’ll be out of competitive action, the boss is keen to turn attentions to Rugby Borough in the FA WNL Northern Premier.

“I think the important thing is players have a bit of downtime over the next couple of weeks," Siobhan.

“Especially after the last week, then we've got a few friendlies in place during the weeks off.

“We played Rugby here at home and know how good they are. They move the ball well and they’re well-drilled, so we've got to be prepared for that.

“When we're out-of-possession like we are and we’re set, we'll give it a very good go.”
