Siobhan Hodgetts-Still and Taylor Reynolds | Stourbridge win 'massive'

Albion Women head coach Siobhan Hodgetts-Still believes her side “battled” to secure an important three points against Stourbridge on Wednesday night.

The Baggies suffered an early dent to their ambitions as Daisy Clements found the top corner from range after just 10 minutes, but the visitors were quick to restore order with strikes from Ali Miller, Ellie May and Simran Jhamat.

Hodgetts-Still was pleased to see her side up for the fight as they managed an important FA WNL Northern Premier victory.

“It’s a massive three points for us,” Hodgetts-Still said.

“I thought it was a dominant performance and we played some good football on a hard pitch."

“We picked our moments to operate in the half-spaces or go in-behind, we moved the ball better than we have done in the last few weeks in terms of our pace and purpose. We also scored three good goals as well.

“It’s massive, I think we’ve had a difficult three weeks, it’s our job to get behind each other and get some confidence back. We hope we can take that confidence into Sunday, we can play and over the last few weeks we haven’t been at our best.

“Like I said to the players, we stuck to the game plan, dug in and showed great character to come from behind – I think we deserved it.”

Defender Taylor Reynolds says that the win demonstrates the “character” of the group, a key component to their triumph at the War Memorial Ground.

She said: “It really shows the character of the group. It was a must-win game."

“It was a great strike from their player, and we knew we had to keep going and keep believing in the things we were doing. We felt that the goals would come, but it shows a lot about our character to get back into it.

“We like to play nice football, and the pitch did limit us at times. We had to find another way to get three points and we did that.

“We’ve been in a bit of a rut recently and we needed to snap ourselves out of it. This was a massive game to do that for us.

“We know we’ve got to end the season strongly with some hard games coming up.”

Hodgetts-Still’s side host Aston Villa in the Birmingham County FA Challenge Cup semi-final on Sunday, an opportunity she says they should relish.

“I think we’ve had a difficult three weeks, it’s our job to get behind each other and get some confidence back,” Hodgetts-Still said.

“We hope we can take that confidence into Sunday; we can play - and over the last few weeks we haven’t been at our best.

“We hope we can continue that into our semi-final on Sunday and beyond. It doesn’t get much better than this, we need to get ourselves to get up for this opportunity and this next test.

“We’ll be straight in to work on how we can get to the final.”
