Siobhan Hodgetts-Still & Seren Watkins | 'We're frustrated not to get anything'

Albion Women head coach Siobhan Hodgetts-Still and midfielder Seren Watkins believe they could, and perhaps should, have got something from Sunday’s FAWNL clash with Nottingham Forest.

The Baggies provided a really stern test for one of the division’s title favourites at the Valley Stadium in Redditch, but were eventually edged out 2-0.

The hosts created promising openings in both halves yet were unable to register a goal against the only remaining unbeaten team left in the league.

Speaking after the encounter, Hodgetts-Still said: “It wasn't the result that we wanted. Obviously, we wanted to get some points out of the game.

“Overall, I'm really happy and proud of the girls despite the result. I thought performance-wise it was excellent. I thought we were hard to break down, we were compact and we frustrated Forest.

“I think in possession, we had some really good counter-attacking moments where we could have caused Forest some serious problems and grabbed a couple of goals.

“That’s something we’ve been working on, recognising that we want to sit in that block. We want to be hard to beat, but we also want to recognise those triggers to go and press and step out.

“If we do that we have to go together, I think that happened today. We caused problems and could've got a goal ourselves as well.

“I think we created some good moments and probably should have got a goal. I’m really happy with the performance.

“Some players today have set the bar, I thought Seren [Watkins] and Ellie [May] were excellent. We’ve just said to them at the end there, you've set the bar for yourselves.

“It doesn't matter who we play. Whether it's a cup game against a team from the league below or against the top of the league, you've set the bar for yourselves now.”

Seren Watkins put in an excellent showing in midfield and offered plenty of combative strength during a testing tussle at the Valley Stadium.

She believes her side deserved something from the contest, saying: “I think we can be frustrated to have not got anything from the game because we definitely deserved something. We caused them a lot of problems and definitely could have got a goal or two if the right moments paid off.

“It was difficult obviously playing 90 minutes against a good strong team, it’s hard on the legs. I think as a team we all grafted hard and we're just unfortunate to have not got something.

“We can only focus on what's next. I think we can go into the next game with a positive attitude.

“We’ve really set the bar high today and showed what we can do and what we need to do in the next games coming up.”

Albion Women are next in action on Sunday, November 17, where they’ll host Sutton Coldfield Ladies in the Birmingham County FA Challenge Cup second-round at the Valley Stadium.
